The U.S. military announced Sunday it recovered unidentified human remains while searching for an American service member reported missing after an Iranian missile and drone attack in Jordan, as another U.

The U.S. attacks were the ninth consecutive day of bombing since peace talks between the two countries collapsed in dispute over a memorandum of understanding focused on the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. military reports two more service members have been killed in the conflict with Iran, bringing the total to 16. Another U.S. service member is missing.

Many of the qualities defense experts say will matter most in future wars are difficult to define and even harder to quantify.

The Pentagon said a service member was killed in northern Iraq on Saturday while troops disposed of an Iranian drone. It also said “unidentified remains” had been found in Jordan, where an earlier attack had left two soldiers dead and another missing.

The United States conducted a new round of airstrikes early Monday targeting Iran after announcing the death of another American service member, hitting around a northwestern city believed to be home to underground missile bases.
